Course Description

This fun and illuminating course exposes participants to the different  types of technologies used online and offline. Through a variety of formats, it demonstrates what it's like from both client and  practitioner perspectives of using these technologies for the serious business of psychotherapy or supervision.

Technolgies covered include buit are not limited to:

  •     email
  •     chat rooms
  •     open forums
  •     MUDS
  •     listservs
  •     secured websites
  •     wearable computers
  •     virtual reality
  •     shared desktops
  •     shared documents
  •     telephone bridges and
  •     videoconferencing

Drawing from comparisons made and parallels drawn from the above exposure to these technologies, also known as the "psychotechnologies" for our purposes, the goal is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of each technology for clinical purposes.

Empirical research comparing and contrasting various psychotechnolgies is used to discuss the the benefits and risks inherent in the use of these technologies, so as to properly prepare you to meet the legal/ethical requirements of imparting these risks and benefits to your clients and patients during the informed consent discussion that must preceed all interventions.
